TO KILL A WAR MACHINE (2025) – on the history and importance of direct action within social movements (film viewing and discussion)

Direct action has historically been considered one of the legitimate methods of anti-systemic movements - from syndicalist to avant-garde struggles. The practice of direct action can allow groups to respond to current attacks, can serve as a method of agitation, can be a moment of mobilisation and can ultimately help in stopping the de-radicalization and NGO-ization of social movements.

A film about the English activist group Palestine Action, which accompanies footage of their direct actions from 2020-2025 with interviews with activists, their family members, supporters, journalists and an international lawyer, thereby placing their story in the context of the effectiveness of documented actions and the rich history of direct action and protests in England. The creators of the Rainbow collective accompany the withdrawal of the film, the distribution and screening of which could be persecuted under the Terrorism Act 2000, with the following words: "We believe that this is an important film in which activists and the public present arguments for why direct action against companies that commit genocide is morally and legally justified. We also believe that banning of a non-violent protest group is the most worrying example of authoritarian overreach that we have seen in the UK in our lifetime, not only in terms of the right to protest, but also in terms of the rights of independent filmmakers, writers, journalists and artists like us, who should be able to express the views and actions of non-violent protesters."

The film viewing is part of the Antiauthoritarian Summer School. The school is space for self-educating of the movement against the systems of domination, a tool for researching history and revolutionary ideas, and a meeting point for various proposals for action in the social struggles of the future.

The school is organized by the Antiauthoritarian Platform, thereby continuing and deepening the educational and organizational processes of the movement and opening them to the outside world. More about the Antiauthoritarian Platform: anarhistka.org/about/

TO KILL A WAR MACHINE (2025) – o zgodovini in pomenu direktnih akcij (ogled filma in diskusija)

Več o Antiavtoritarni platformi: anarhistka.org/about/
